MILAN, 7 July – Exactly fifty years ago – in the late afternoon – Jean V, Gianfranco Barrels, Leonardo Guerra and Ernesto Rossi were based in Milan l’Associazione Italiana Sommelier. Thus was born one of the most important associations between sommelier in the world, that now has more than 35.000 members distributed throughout the national territory.

In Milan, today at the Westin Palace a few hundred sommelier (me unworthily including), fans, winegrowers, operators, restaurateurs and journalists gathered in front of the huge tasting counter set up for the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary. Preceded in the morning from a celebratory moment from the classic and cutting of the cake, the presence of the same V (you see it here) and the current AIS summits, the afternoon tasting has seen deployed on a large number of bottles of the finest Italian manufacturers, with some goodies presented in important vintages.

The samples in the main hall have joined four seminars (dedicated to Franciacorta, Campania whites, Austria and Germany, whites of Burgundy), While a spectacular vertical Barbacarlo by Lino Maga concluded in beauty the celebrations.

Despite the heat, the Festival is managed very well: less than usual notebooks (well as I left home my faithful Moleskine) and a lot of happy faces, chatter, smiles, in pleasure to meet or get to know each one (happy) glass and other things. Not insignificant detail, the increasingly numerous – as you can see above – presence of women.
